Quick question, vista + clocking 8800

have just installed vista ultimate and, while with ntune installed i can see overclocking options in the nvidia control panel performance section now, i can't change anything. was on the previous drivers earlier today and didn't work with them, nor the new ones up today. x64 version of vista.

there is the option for default clocks or manual overclocking, if i click on that the option for default clocks stays highlighted and clocks, nor optimal clocks settings work. rivatuner doesn't seem to be working for me in x64, and not sure what else might work.

is there something i need to do to the control panel, or any other aps i can use.

From what I understand, overclocking and Vista is a no-no at the moment :(
Overclocking is not possible, or at least I have not found an easy way.

If you are desperate you can try to mod the BIOS of your card so it has default higher clocks.

Don't own Vista, so this is more than likely not going to help, but would Rivatuner not work? or isn''t it compatiable with Vista?

Rivatuner doesn't overclock in Vista either - it can't detect forceware, if memory serves.

It installs fine but as soon as you open it it says it has not detected compatible card/drivers.

Well, no overclocking = worst thing ever.

I don't want to lose my 160MHZ odd on the core and 200 odd MHZ on Memory.

I want to try vista out too.

Off topic slightly, how are the NV drivers for Vista? is there still major performance loss?

Only thing I tried was Oblivion and it ran fine but as I have my 8800GTS running at 650/2000 with XP and default 500/1600 with Vista I can't say if it is slower due to Vista or due to the clockspeed differences :(

I have a Dual Boot setup with XP and Vista and when I play a game I use XP and when I want to test some other stuff I boot to Vista

In XP test Oblivion with your graphics card at stock clocks, then that would be a fair XP vx Vista Oblivion test, no Drivers issues here ;), except for no overclocking, running an 8800GTS here.

I could do that but there is no benchmarking timedemo so results will always vary.

I think that the difference I observed is mainly due to no overclocking as Oblivion is very GPU limited, especially as I run 1280*1024 4xSSAA+HDR with every IQ option full.

According to this page the 8800GTS performance in Oblivion is actually faster in Vista: http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=2917&p=18
