I've finally taken the plunge and installed my W7 Pro x64 retail on my gaming PC, and it was so easy to set up a dual boot that I'm gutted I didn't do it months ago.

I've installed latest drivers for my 8800GTX, but W7 seems to have installed x64 drivers for the IP35 Pro chipset and everything. Is there any benefit to installing pukka vendor-supplied drivers as there was with XP32, or do the Microsoft-supplied drivers do the trick?

Is there any other recommended stuff I need to do driver-wise after a fresh install?

Thanks in advance!

i struggled to get the ip35 drivers from the abit site after they shut down, last time i reinstalled i let windows update pull them in automatically

don't bother with MS or mobo makers for drivers. just lookup the chipset/components on the mobo website specs page and then go direct to source. i'm guessing it probably has a p35 chipset (intel) and onboard LAN from realtek?

IP35 here with x64 W7 and no problems with the automatic driver. I'm not a gamer but I've never come across any performance issues (8800GT)

Cheers chaps, I've left the default chipset drivers- so far no performance issues. In fact performance seems great, I'm very impressed with W7 so far.

The only bespoke stuff I've installed is the Realtek HD driver. Then installed Steam and started gaming!

Only think I insist on doing myself is the 8800 drivers, had a problem previously using Windows updates to manage the graphics card drivers and ended up having to restore the PC as the damn think wouldn't take ANY drivers for the card afterwards and the one it tried to install failed constantly. Nothing fixed it, driver cleaners etc.

Everything else was fine though! :)

IP35 is a P35 board yeah?

google..

intel chipset majorgeeks

always use that link for all intel chipset drivers :)

majorgeeks is an easy to find download link for it, instead of looking through the intel site for it
