...So whats it like? Particularly whats the Asus P5N-E SLI like with quad cores, will a Q6600 work with one?

Why wont it overclock well? I've tried 3 of those Asus boards so far and they're good at overclocking dual-cores for the money.

Because they don't have the power regulation required for Quads, much the same as the early 680i boards and 965 based chipsets. Quads will work but won't overclock as far as boards with improved GTL reference modifications..

Wasn't that fixed in later 650/680i boards? For instance i used the have one of the first 680i boards, and it was really bad at OC-ing quad-cores, then that board failed one day, and i did a RMA and the replacement was a new revision that OC'ed way better.

It's not so much the problem with chipsets just the VRM design of individual board. The P5N-E SLI was aimed at mainstream market so only came with the lowest 3-phase VRM which can just barely handle quad-cores. The Gigabyte 650i one on the other hand has the same chipset but is much better equipped for quads.
