Hey all,

I'm currently doing a report for my university work but one of the titles in some data I given is labelled: "Woody spp."

Woody spp.
% cover
80
30
woody sp.
bracken/birch
birch/bramble
bramble

Obviously it's to do with the total percentage cover, but does anyone know what spp. or even sp. stands for?

If it helps, it's related to work done in the field with quadrats.

If anyone can answer this for me, I'll be very grateful.

Cheers.

Hmm, I think that might actually be it. I'll go with species for the time being. Cheers mate.

I'll e-mail the lecturer who gave me the data, and IF he replies, we'll find out.

Thanks again.

sp. and spp. BOTH mean species.

sp. refers to 1 species, and spp. refers to more than one.

For example:

Hapopelma sp. - A species of Haplopelma

Haplolelma spp. - A number of species of Haplpelma.

Hope that makes sense :)

Thank you :)
