Hi all I currently have a system in place consisting of:

Athlon 64 X2 4200
1GB DDR (2x512) 3200
"Rubbish Graphics" (can’t remember the name)
and all the rest of it.

Now I am wondering weather to upgrade to DDR2 and a better graphics card. With the DDR I don’t no whether to stick more DDR or upgrade to DDR2.
So I have a few questions, shall I stick more DDR in or upgrade to DDR2. Also will I need to upgrade my mobo if I went to DDR2?

Secondly can you recommend me a reasonable graphics card too?

Thanks

Your socket is 939, it only supports normal DDR memory not DDR2. If you want DDR2 you'll have to go to AM2 which means new mobo CPU and RAM, so it's not even worth thinking about mate :)
Just by 2x1GB dual channel DDR 3200 or DDR4000 memory.

GFX card wise, best bang for buck is the Connect3D X1800XT for £149,
the Connect3d X1900XT is £223 and is also a very good price.

You think the CPU good enought for general use and on the odd occaion games. But with technoogy moving on and now 939 being stopped is it not worth moving onto AM2?

not worth *** cost yet. You still have a very good processor in there, and it should last you a while yet. Performance gains in AM2 are not worth the cost, and to some extent the same applies to conroe. Now, fi like me you were upgrading form a skt A system on the other hand, it would be worth it.

But your pc is recent enough that it should be fine.
