Hi there. I am going to upgrade from P4 2.6, 9800 Pro and an old mobo to Amd 3700+, X1900XT and an PCI-E mobo. Does that mean a format is necessary or can it be avoided??
Thanks

Most probably have to reload windows im afraid. You could try a windows repair (not the repair console), but im sure you will take a performance bump with old drivers, etc still on the machine, and thats if it works.

I concur, its pretty much a must do, because you'll end up with a load of old stuff that might cause functional problems. Re-Format is the best way of going at it, if you have your OS set up on one partition and all your other files on another then formating and re-installing should only take a couple of hours easy.

depends what you call major! :D Most of the time after replacing the mobo its just easier to reformat, adding something like a graphic card is just getting silly!as long as the old graphics card has been uninstalled properly
