On an application form for a job, if you exaggerate your current salary will they ever find out about it? i.e. adding a few K on.

When I applied to rent a house the letting agency contacted my employer to confirm that my salary matches what I'd told them it was and my employer had to ask my permission before they could give out any information. So I doubt they'd tell anyone without you knowing about it.

what i mean is nowadays you dont even have to tell them your age because of silly discrimination acts but you have to tell them your old salary ?
