Hi guys.

Going to be building my new system on wednesday whick will inclue a thermalright 120 extreme cpu cooler, and ill buy a 120mm sharkoon fan for it. My question is- how will i be able to control the speed of the fan, and also, how will my motherboard know that ive got a fan connected? Because it cant plug into the cpu fan connecter..

cheers

Why wont it plug into the cpu fan header? If it's a standard 3 pin fan connector it should be fine.

I think these come with a 3pin connector so you can connect it to your mobo and control it from there. Its not ideal with a 120mm fan as they can draw a lot of power. Ideally you'd need to get a fan controller of some kind

I believe the fan will come with a 3-pin header :)

Your cpu fan header may have four pins, but this would still fit. However it wouldn't be temperature controlled etc. But you may have an option in your bios to change the fan speed depending on temperature.

Or alternatively you could connect it upto a fan controller...Entirely upto you.

Even if you have a 4pin cpu connector is fine to plug a 3pin in... you can then download something like speedfan and control all of your fan speeds based on temperature
