I'm after buying an iMac pretty soon just want to ask a quick question :)

I'm wanting the lowest spec 24" model but want to upgrade the RAM to 2GB and the HD to 500GB.

Would I be able to walk into the Apple store and take an iMac away to my specification or would I have to order online?

Also, I'm a University student. How much discount can I get? My mate mentioned it was 14% but he wasn't fully sure.

Can I claim this discount in store by presenting my student card?

Thanks :D

As far as I know anything build to a non-standard specification cannot be supplied in store. Student discount is round about the 14% mark. If you are wanting to spec your own imac then id suggest going online in college and selecting the higher education store.

Yes, the discount is 14% or thereabouts (it varys between Universitys I believe)

Some bigger Apple stores carry popular configurations as well as the stock ones, but don't rely on them having the exact one you want.

You are able to get the discount instore if you present a NUS card, acceptance letter etc, but you would be better off ringing Apple and buying it on the phone.

If you have access to the Uni network (through VPN) then you can do it online, however, I've always found it quick and easy on the phone.. it depends which is easier for you.

Cheers for that guys, I don't really fancy going into Uni and ordering a Mac there lol

I wonder if I have the option on Blackboard to access the HE store?

Thanks for all help/advice so far :)

I'm not familiar with Blackboard, but you can access it via a Uni VPN providing your uni has VPN access?

Hmm, I'm not sure if they have it. Says nothing on Blackboard about it anyway :(

How would I go about claiming the HE discount over the phone?

You just say your a uni student, they don't usually ask for any proof either, which means people that aren't in uni can blag it... ;)

Easy stuff.
