Hey,

I just wanted a quick expert answer to a stupid question.

I currently have 2x 2GB DDR2 G.SKILL 8500 sticks of ram in my current board.
Asus P5N-D nForce 750i SLi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard.

I'd like to put another 4 GB in but I'm not sure, do they have to be the same (matching) ram as what is already in ? or as long as I get two more identical sticks will they work with the other different sticks of ram ?

Thanks Tummy x

Its best to match new ram to your existing stuff, as mixing brands or sets with different timings or volts can cause stability issues. If you do get another pair of the gskill 8500 youll likely have to up the NB/MCH voltage a notch or two as youll be running 4 memory sticks.

as the poster above says try and get hold of a matching set!

It's generally advisable, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's essential. In the past I was running 2x1GB generic DDR2 667 and 2x2GB Geil DDR2 800 without issues. Note that if you put in RAM of different speeds, it will default to the slower.
