Mate has bought a 2nd hand monitor from a local shop, its an LCD, the problem is it only has a DVI connection on the monitor and he only has VGA onboard graphics.

Is there anyway to get this to work as all the adapters I've seen convert DVI to VGA not the other way round.

Cheers.

SJ.

I believe you would need an active adapter that converts the analogue signal into a digital one - which won't be cheap.

Probably the best course of action is to buy a cheap graphics card with at least one DVI output. If he does want to go down this route you will want to find out a few things:

- what the model name of the PC is (if its a pre-build)
- the physical space available in the for a graphics card
- the make/model/capacity of the PSU
- the make/model of the motherboard (specifically what expansion slots (PCI Express/AGP) it has).

The cheapest one I can find on OCUK is £30 (new), however if you look second hand (MM, the bay) then you can pick one up for much cheaper.

Cheers, unfortunately it's an old pentium 2 motherboard, I don't even think it has an AGP port lol

Guess he will have to take it back :/
