Quick question

We would you recommend, the 1gb gtx 460 or 1gb hd 6850?

Games will be played at 1600x1050 using amd x4 955 and 4gb ddr3 ram.

It is worth noting that I only have a corsair cx400 psu.

Any help would be great.

Depends on price really. For the same price, i would go for a 6850 personally- but only just

Really not much in it.

Would prefer 460 for the drivers, but 6850 if I wanted to do more than 2 screens...

Upgrade your PSU first, then contemplate upgrading a graphics card.

Why would I need a new psu?

Measured power consumption - 6850 with a power hungry Core i7 965 / X58 based. This setup is overclocked to 3.75 GHz (guru 3d)

1. Advertised TDP = 127W
2. System in IDLE = 176W
3. System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 278W
4. Difference (GPU load) = 102 W
5. Add average IDLE wattage ~ 19W
6. Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 121 Watts

Your CX400 is a little monster!!!! a lot different from the replacement CX430.

when you consider the free game with the 6850, i'd say that was the best deal.
