Well first, how much better is the X1900XTX than the X1900XT? and secondly is a crossfire setup of 2xX1900XTX worth it?.... will it make a difference? Will it future proof me? etc

Not a lot between the two TBH.

The xt can be clocked to XTX speeds and the xtx a bit more.

What cpu are you running?

xfire x1900 is a waste of money IMO.

Massive power requirements and heat output.

SLI performs far better than Xfire uses far less power and heat.

So SLI is an option for some

but xfire is not as common as SLI due to these issues.

Well with that i would be running a X2 4800+...... ah the joys of choosing a new pc :P

Hmm, well how does the 7900GT preform compared to the X1900XTX

The 7900 GTX performs on par with the x1900xtx out performing it in some games and vice versa.

The 7900 GTX runs cooler, uses far less power and the trump card for me IMO is the fact that it is silent and I mean silent under full load.

This cannot be said about the x1900 xtx.

I've recently purchased a 7900GT as I could not be bothered to wait for the 7900GTX and in the end something hit me and advised me to stick with mid range cards - couldn't justify spending £280+ on a video card. :)

Can you let you know how the 7900GT performs when I get it on Monday.

What could you compare the sound with of a X1900 so i can get an idea... eg my pc had a Delta Screemer in and sounded like a small hairdryer... now it has a quiet fan in it soundes like a extractor fan on slow mode

see here

for x1900 noise analysis.

the terms hoover are mentioned more than once :p

x1900 is faster than the 7900 GT, as said above the x1900 is on par with the 7900 GTX, even the x1800 XT is faster than the 7900 GT, the 7900 GT is about the same as the 7800 GTX. :)

Don't want to hijack this thread. But since we're also on the subject of noise, easyrider - as I know you've had a 7900GT, is this quieter than the X1900s? Otherwise I should've got an X1900.

It uses the same cooler as the x1800's, i cant hear my x1800 at all, even when under full load, it only sounds like a hoover for about 3 seconds when you first turn yer PC on as it runs full speed, then it drops to its 2D windows speed which you can't hear at all, it only picks up when under full load (gaming), and even then i can hardly hear mine, all i can hear is a faint hum, but thats if i specifically try and listen for it, plus i doubt you game with no sound, so you wont hear it anyway.

If they are loud then mines deffo faulty, as all i can hear from mine is GO GO GO GO, TAKE COVER, NEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOWWWWWWWWWNNNNN, DAKKA, DAKKA, DAKKA etc..... very odd coming from a gfx card, RMA time it is then. :p
