Looks like my machine may be in need of new ram (still to be confirmed;)), but in the meantime whilst i'm still looking into this i was wondering what ram would be best to go for.

My current ram is as my sig and i'm still running xp pro 32bit. I was looking at getting:

Crucial Ballistix Tracer RED 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit

I know that xp will not see the 4gb's but would it cause me any probs or would it be a case of it only seeing the 3gb's or whatever it does. I was thinking of going down the 4gb route as want to take the plunge for vista soon, so might aswell get the 4gb whilst i need to replace my ram.

Thanks

Before getting my current ballistix ram i was always a Corsair guy, changed for no reason except that it was getting good reviews at the time and fancied a change, so sure, happy to go back to Corsair.

So will not have any issues with going 4gb whilst still using xp. Does it just see 3gb as i thought then? even though the bios i guess will see the 4.

As you can prob tell i am no ram guru, i do know that the latency thing can be an issue, but surely only if your clocking etc?

must have cought you mid post or something as did not see the rest of your post. The cost is not so much of an issue aslong as its below a ton. With this ram then it's 1066 mhz, my board will take this ram, but my cpu is only 1333. Would i have to clcok my cpu or would the ram just run at 1333 (800)?

So i could plug in 1066 ram and it would just run at the highest capable default of 1333? No problems or tweaking required?
