Quick question from someone who doesn't know much about RAM.

My Dad is looking to upgrade his rig to 8GB. He's currently using a GA-EP45T-UD3P motherboard which officially supports 1.5V RAM, and I was about to get him some OCZ Gold from OcUK, but spotted that it is rated at 1.55-1.65V. Is the difference in voltage likely to cause problems?

If so I'll just get him the Ballistix on TWO.

Any help much appreciated!

On a Core 2 system it should be no problem. They'll likely just work at 1.5V anyway to be honest but if not there should be a BIOS setting to adjust the RAM voltage up slightly.

Yeah, thought as much. He's normally itchy about messing with his BIOS settings but for something as basic as that I'm sure I could coax him into it. Either that or the next time I'm down I'll do it for him.

Thanks for the help!

For the extra 81p I would go with the Crucial kit. They will definitely run at 1.5V and the OCZ gold memory kits have a pretty poor reputation (not to mention that OCZ got out of the RAM game - though they did pledge they would honour their warranties).

Hmm, fair points. Plus the OCZ kit looks plain awful with those heat spreaders!

Crucial it is then. Thanks guys.
