my mum and dad are paying for the insuarance atm at a cost of £961 for, in order

1. Dad (Full)
2. Me (Full)
3. Mum (Full)

so my mum phones up and asks how much would it be to put my girlfriend on the insuarance since she is now living with us, now she has passed her test last may and hasnt drove since passsing it and hasnt been on an insurance policy... ever.

now can someone tell me why the hell the new qoute with her on it is £961? im rather ****** off atm, its ridiculous that she is getting onto the insuarance for FREE!

i wouldnt say that now, she hasnt drove in nearly a year and took 3 goes to pass her test, ive been driving over a year and havnt had a single claim or accident, im a sensible driver and have calmed down a lot since i have passed my test, yes i still rake around but only when the conditions are good and back off when i know enoughs enough, ive been driving the car long enough now to know how far it can be pushed before the bak end comes out or the wheels lock no one on this forum can say they dont rag the nuts off their car now and again

i just feel that it may as well be called discrimination that im the one that gets the flack from the insurance and get tarred with the same brush that the twonks do

Cos she's a girl.

yea but if i wasnt on the insurance and she was im sure it would be more expensive with her on it as wellthan it would be with just my mum and dad.

they are paying ~400 for both of them on an 1.8 mondeo

they were paying 1400 at the start with the 3 of us on an 1.1 saxo

Dont know why its a rant anyway, its cost you nothing :)

up untill now, i knew from the start i had to put towards it but at that point i wasnt working so had no money for petrol, insurance, parts, all that was paid for and im very gratefull for it, but now i have to help put towards the insuarnce, i dont mind though as im earning money and would like to contribute to it to say thanks

edit, ive been driving for over a year and a half

You are complaining that they are insuring your girlfriend for FREE? am I right on this.....just slightly confused, as you seem to be upset at this!

no, im annoyed at the fact that there is no difference in price when a young female driver who hasnt drove in a year, so is still an R driver, is being brought on to a policy and the price doesnt change, im not annoyed that my mum and dad arent charging her

young women cause tiny prangs. Younbg men cost insurers more :)

lol, yea right, not when they overtake you then sit in the slow lane at 60 then decide to come into the fast lane again without indicating or looking, nearly running me off the road as i overtake them resulting on me slamming the brakes on and blareing the horn

If it's that much of an issue to you, ask her to contribute to the cost anyway.

I really don't see how her getting 'free' insurance could be a bad thing :/

its not that she is getting free insuarance that annoys me, its just that i dont think its fair that males all get tarred with the one brush, if my brother was to come on to the insuarance it would be sky high.

i think that if cheaper insuarance was offered it would make people think twice about how fortunate they were and would try and keep the price as low as possible

You really think that knowing the 'limits' of the car and knowing when the back end will step out makes you a safer driver? I'm quite sure the majority of women have absolutely no idea of these things.

I know that there are exceptions, but statistics dont lie, and thats what the insurers will follow.

and follow they will, but i think its ridiculous that right from the word go, im getting treated like any other young male on the road...

Bug One said:
Why, because they have no desire to push a car anywhere near these limits.

i wouldnt say that now, i know some crazy women drivers, get together on a sunday night for the local meet and race around town centres on the wrong side of the road with their cars heavily modified and dont get charged the same as males

This is true, but you dont seem to realise that insurance does not work on individual cases.

yes but if they are not individual cases then why does the opposite sex get let off with the heavy price tag.

think of it as this: man and woman, the man being targeted as being the individual we are getting singled out, there are rules for one and rules for another. there should be an accross the board one 'rule' for all as lets face it, post no. 26 says it all, so much for equal opportunity
