I'm going to be putting together a modest system for a mate using an AMD APU and since i'ver only ever built my own systems using Intel i just want to make sure im prepared.

Is there anything i need to know about putting together an APU based system in regards to physically installing the chip in the motherboard and first boot procedure (bios settings on whatnot?).

The above is what i'll be ordering and i just want to check that i haven't forgot anything. I dont want to end up without all the necessary cables and such.

Cheers

APU's like fast RAM for the GFX core, so feed it 2133MHz or better.

Hmmmm. I may have to scale things down a bit then as we've already stretched the budget as far as it can go.

On the other hand he isn't actually interested in gaming at all so the slow RAM might not be an issue. I decided on an APU as i thought gfx power would still be useful even though its mostly just a web browsing/HD video machine.

Thanks for that. I was just playing about a bit my self and came up with the following.

Swapped the APU+mobo for cheaper alternatives and added slightly faster RAM and an SSD.

Would you still prefer your Intel system over an 6400k APU?
