Going from point A to point B.

Roundabout has two entry lanes.

Streetview of the entry:

Streetview of the roundabout with the desired exit visible just to the right of the 'middle' pillar (two to the right of the bus):

Which lane would you use?

Right lane and filter to the left just before the exit, correct? So why do I have to dodge people every morning who sail all the way round the roundabout in the left hand lane, sometimes even occasionally encroaching into my lane :(

It makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong..

Yeah, annoyingly and typically there isn't any streetview of the entry slip-road, but it shows the exit past the 12 o'clock position ;)

I know that roundabout very well as I live just down the road, right hand lane is definitely preferred however no-one ever navigates it correctly, have you ever looked on the ground around the roundabout? there is so much glass from daily prangs! its a bit like driving round a mini Arc de Triomphe, drive into it, close your eyes and pray! and if you crash not the end of the world there is a macdonalds 20m away :p

It amazes me the number of drivers who are incapable of staying in lane. Where i live there are a number of roundabouts with 3 lanes on them and the number of people who (as an example) want to turn right, start in the correct lane (outside 'overtaking' lane ont he previous road or inner most lane once on the roundabout).

Then rather than follow that lane as it becomes the middle lane (the left hand lane having exited) round the roundabout until it becomes the outside lane at their exit, instead they stick their car to the inside of the roundabout, untill they see their exit coming round and then pull across the middle and inside lanes to take it!

Glad it's not just me then, who has to either slam his brakes on or floor it past another car to make the exit  :p

thats actually the roundabout I got knocked off my motorbike years ago, lorry just pulled out as I was joining the Chertsey (a316), I still wince in the back of my mind everytime I take that exit!

I know this roundabout really well as well - not once have I had a "clean" experience on it, I've had to dodge people every time :/

It's utterly bizarre, no other roundabout do I ever have so much grief with! Time to buy an old Volvo and just merge into people I think :D

Also know the roundabout very well. I usually come at it from the other side, but on the occasions I have done it that way round I'm pretty sure I've been in the right hand lane.

EDIT:
Streetview showing the sign as you're coming up to the roundabout (you can almost make out the Twickenham A305 bit)

I like the way the sign doesnt even mention the a316 at the 12 o'clock position, I appreciate in that lane you will have just come off it but that doesnt help you if you are lost :p

Nicely found, I think this further illustrates our point :D

The camera there is right next to the layby that an unmarked police car stopped me for doing 68 on the A316, too :o

I'm amazed I've never been pulled on that stretch of road.
I used to work out near Staines and so commuted on the A316 every day, it's so easy not to stick to the 50 limit, especially now that the top end has been resurfaced!

Pretty much people don't know how to or have forgotten how to drive properly, so the highway code has been changed to accomodate these idiots. Apparently its fine to sail around in the left hand lane even though I was taught that after 12 o'clock position, you use the right hand lane.

its a wicked road, and boringly enough it had the first speed camera in the UK installed on it

had some insane (50mph of course) drives on there, most memorable was in the supra against a 993 turbo, think both of us took a few years off our respective lives that night!! Its always nice to get a big thumbs up from other drivers at the end of a little blat, both cars with smoking brakes and big grinning drivers at the wheel by the whitton roundabout

The general public's ability to navigate a roundabout in a reasonable manner is frankly pitiful. Even if the correct lane to use is well signposted, including arrows on the road itself, many people seem incapable of following these directions, and when their appalling driving inevitably brings them into conflict with other road users they are usually the ones shouting and waving fists.

It's long past time to chlorinate the UK's gene pool IMO.
