Hi Guys,

Quick one, I've done a fair bit of research but always appreciate any further input. I am looking to upgrade my rig, with core components only. I have a case, ssd, gfx card, etc.

What I'm looking at getting is:

- Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor

- Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155)

- Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz

This all falls in roughly just about my £300 max budget.

Does anyone have experience with the above parts? Any issues or nuances I should be aware of?

I am also looking to use a Titan Fenrir CPU Heatsync. It was good for the old socket types but from what I've read it should be ok on the SandyBridge, and that I just have to think if the motherboard will take it.

Any quick thoughts and I'd appreciate it!
Cheers!

Looks good Idleman, that's £290 minus shipping! Thanks

I assume that motherboard is capable of Ivybridge socket type? The one I suggested in OP calls for a bios update to officially support Ivy and even then some people reported problems (Hence I picked the Sandy).

The cheap RAM is good but I'd rather pay a little more as I know Corsair are generally solid. Plus the Fenrir is so big I used to have problems getting more than 2 modules of RAM in the board, unless the profile was ridiculously low!

@OP

Do you have the additional 1156 plate+fittings?

The V2 (which I had) had a 1156 plate and fittings selotaped to the outside of the box as it was added later on, the earlier ones didn't have it.

Example - http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cooling/2009/05/17/titan-fenrir-ttcnk85tz-cou-cooler/1

Review date is 2009, the listed support doesnt include 1156.

Good shout stu, I was just looking at the same thing. I bought mine almost 3 years ago, chances are it was the older version.

Honest answer is I need to check if I have the spare plate fittings and if not, buy a new heatsync. I could use the stock one with the CPU but realistically I will want to change it and I cba to put it back together again.

£30 isn't a deal breaker in terms of budget.
