Hi guys,

First off, yes this is theoretical as its a college project.

Trying to get my head around client access licensing.
Iv read over Microsoft licensing page ( http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/about-licensing/client-access-license.aspx ) but still have a few questions.

I have 3 sites, site A has 3 server running 08 with 30 Users, and site B & C have 1 server running 08 with 10 Users.

I have 50 users with desktops and laptops, from what I have read its best to get user CALs and not device CALs as it would be doubling the price for no reason.

Now do I need to get 50 CALs for each of the servers totalling 250 CALs?
Or do I need just 1 set of 50 CALs that will allow the users to be licences to access all of the 5 server.

Hopefully that makes some sense and I'm not just rambling haha

Cheers in advance!
Em

*edit*

Also, have I totally misread everything and the CAL is just for administrators what have access to the GUI of the server OS?

Don't know the answer to your question as such but in Exchange if you have say 30 mailbox users you need 30 CALs, and they normally come in two flavours Standard CAL and Enterprise CAL. Each user needs a Standard CAL regardless, Enterprise CAL covers you for some extra features and is additive on the Standard CALs.

CALs are per User / Device, organisation wide.
So for an organisation with 3 sites, all running 2008, you would only need the total amount of users / devices (where appropriate).

2003 CALs do not count for 2008.

Standard and Enterprise CALs offer different features.
