My camera is shooting at 2592x1944 at the moment. I generally resize these to 1024x768 or 800x600 for gallery. Now is this ratio the normal 6x4 ratio for printing or is there some other printing format I need to use?

e.g. Will a 800x600 pixel photo print perfectly on 6x4 paper?

800x600 = 4:3
6" by 4" = 3:2

Therefore they wont fit.

You will either need to crop them, or chose a different size paper.

Is there somewhere which says all the normal ratios and normal print sizes? And which you can use with each without cropping?

Whats a normal print size for a 800x600 photo?

OcUK forums is faster ;)

I suppose 8x6 would work but whats like a normal size that most people would use for photoalbums or something?

You want 6 x 4.5

Traditionally, most cameras were 3:2 so would print on 6x4. Digital cameras have gone away from this, mostly so the pics fit nicer on PC screens I think.

6 x 4

= 600 x 400

or

1200 x 800
1500 x 1000
3000 x 2000
etc

look at your resolution possibilities

divide the first number by 6 (or 3 to be acurate to the 3:2 scaling)
then multiply the result by 4 (or 2 to be acurate to the 3:2 scaling)
and that is your second number
there you have a 6 x 4 capable resolution

or at least I think that is how it works simply

To complicate things though this camera i have in front of me, doesetn quite work. the first number is 8 pixels over the 3:2

Just use the crop tool and set the ratio to 6x4. You'll soon learn to frame your shots so the shot looks right after cropping to 6x4.
