My question fell into so many categories I thought General Hardware would be the best place to post for a prompt solution. Please help me sort this one because moving my speakers about everytime I want to watch a film is driving me mad !

Basically I've rigged my PC out so that I can watch Blu-ray films either on my HD monitor (on my own) or when mates are over I can switch to HDMI and watch it on the HDTV. The problem is, my PC is not next to my TV and this is a problem when the sound is coming from one place and the picture from the other, its just irritating.

Is there a way/cable I can use that will allow me to send the sound to my monitor and still use the HDMI cable to supply the picture. Obviously newer Nvidia and ATI cards come with a HDMI port on them but I'm using a DVI to HDMI adapter which from what I've been told doesn't allow the HDMI cable to carry the sound.

You should be able to get audio via HDMI (DVI-HDMI adaptor) if your GPU is compatable (most new cards are IIRC) and you connect it up to the Optical header on the motherboard with the supplied cable.

What GPU are you running atm?

I was in the same position, I ended up buying myself a long HDMI cable that goes from my pc to my HDTV and it works perfect.
