I just have a quick question about soundbars. The spec of the sound bar that I am looking at has DTS but only 2 channel. That means if I play a movie with 5.1 DTS and send it to the soundbar to decode that I will only get sound from 2 channels?

What happens if I set the player to do the decoding first? Will I get 5.1 then? The sound bar can play dolby digital 5.1.

The sound bar has the ability to add wireless rear speakers which I might buy later on.

best contact the soundbar manufacter on what happens with various codec inputs, whether it fully supports DTS 5.1. Shouldn't see why not although I guess to save money some budget soundbars such like from B&M may only support PCM or DD.

Oh, I never realised anybody replied!! I was deciding what soundbar to buy, and one the features I wanted was the ability add wireless rear speakers. I know this isn't as good as a traditional 5.1 setup but because of the layout of this room, it's impossible to have a traditional setup. No space for front speakers, no where to run cables. Sound bar, or base were really my only options.

I upgraded the TV last year to a 55 OLED TV from LG and the picture is so good that I started watching more movies on it and I want to get better sound. I tried a good few sound bars, about 10 in all, from LG, Sony, Philips, Pioneer and Yamaha, various price ranges from £200 to £800 and wasn't happy with any of them and I gave up looking. But, there was a sale on in a store near me and they had the Sony HT-RT5 and the Samsung HW-K550 available for sale, both with options for rear speakers. Having already tried the Sony HT-RT3 and not liking it, I decided to try the Samsung.

Set it up last night and tried it out. It's the best sound bar that I have ever tried. Bass isn't overpowering, the speakers aren't harsh to listen to after a while. Going to buy the wireless kit tomorrow for the rear speakers. Hope they match the quality of the sound bar. I am very surprised by how much I like it.
