This is the spec one of the guys on this forum came up with but Ive changed the cpu for a higher spec - do you foresee any probs?

Spec as follows:- best I can do....
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail £140.99
OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 (1333MHz) Low-Voltage Dual Channel (OCZ3G1333LV4GK) £74.99
Asus M4A78LT-M LE AMD 760G (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £51.99

Thanks

Ok - so how do you copy the image??

Just highlight the text, copy and then paste it here, much much easier.

To do it properly, press print screen, open paint and paste into there. Then go to someplace like www.tinypic.com and upload the pic. Then finally, link to the image you uploaded, here.

Only issue i can think of is that the cpu may not be compatible with the mobo with the bios that is included. If you bear with me i can check the asus website.

You could go with a X2 555BE as some can be unlocked to an X3 or X4 with that mobo with a setting on the bios (ACC).

I'd recommend going with the 555BE and buy an aftermarket AM3 cooler, arctic freezer or similar. This will cool the chip if you are lucky and can unlock the extra cores to X4 or at the very least allow you to overclock it easier as an X2.

Google phenom II core unlocking you wont believe how simple it is!

OK lucky i asked:D....Will have to look for another motherboard to run that CPU, machine is to be used for multi track music and midi recording only......any suggestions for another m/board?
Glad i asked i was going to pop up and fetch the parts, back to the drawing board....

if you are dead set on an X4 then go for the 955 as it is on the list. You can ask OC to update the bios for you to make sure it will work out of the box.

Before anyone says anything yes i know there is a good chance it will post with it and then just update the bios but if you are going down there just make your life easy ;p

So the Asus board should be ok with the 955?
Guys am i doing this wrong do i need to go up spec on the Motherboard for better reliability, i don't mind paying more for something that might be better. I'm really carefull as the last computer i built, i went with Rimm/bus memory, bad choice.

Yes it should. The problem is you dont know what bios will be on the board when you buy it, which is why i suggested you ask the vendor to update it. Lastest bios will definately support the 955.

You will find this issue on any mobo really, it's the older CPUs that are definately supported on the early stock bios.

I still think the 555BE is the way forward but the 955 will be ok. Was just trying to get you more bang for buck ;p

'Phenom II X4 955 (HDX955WFK4DGM),3.2GHz,95W,rev.C3,SocketAM3,Quad-Core'

Unless I'm mistaken most of the Phenom 955s are 125W?

It depends on the revision of the CPU. The list I posted shows what CPUs are compatible, it's a case of buying the CPU that is listed, if you can't find that revision of chip then find another.

Maybe a motherboard upgrade bundle might be an easier solution vikki. All the parts are compatible then and will save the headaches.
