Quick Spec Check

Its actually for a friend who has a £400-£500 budget. What would be the advantage of the 4300? Also its 620w overkill?

Ta

was me that though the psu was overkill

altho will i need it for overclocking??

also which is best heatsink for overclocking as i still wanna keep it as cool as possible

The 4300 has a higher multiplier (x9) instead of x7 for other Core2Duo's.

As for the PSU I would stick with the 620w leaves you with a bit of headroom for future upgrades. Plus your on on budget anyway's and the 4300 would make it even cheaper.

don't the fsb make that much difference??? from 800 - 1066??

With the lower fsb there is more room for overclocking plus the 4300 has a higher multiplier. This allows for overclocking without the need for stellar memory allowing you perhaps to run your memory at 1:1.

Basically the 4300 is slightly slower at stock but potentially a better overclocker

Does your friend plan to overclock? They really should do :D

i am the friend :D hehe

and yes i plan to overclock if its simply just changing settings :D

can anyone else gimmie there way of doing things please so i can see different ways?

cheapest - expensive

Looks like a good spec.

The 6300 will probably get you a faster overclock, but the 4300 will be easier to overclock.

620W is more than enough. I'd drop to the 520W version (which is still more than enough).

Have you considered the Asus P5B or the P5N-E? They're both excellent motherboards. The P5B is the 965 chipset like the DS3 but seems to be capable of higher FSB speeds. The P5N has asynchronous RAM overclocking, so you don't need to worry about your ram speed or setting dividers as you overclock. :)

the p5n was what i was looking at before alc said about the gigabyte motherboard.

thanks for all the info guys ill let u know what i finish up buying this weekend

god i can't wait to install vista aswell which is another thing i need to buy lol

Good stuff. Give it a while to check everything works and the temps are allright.
Then let the overclocking begin! :p
