Going to buy tomorrow morning:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3ghz
  • Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2
  • G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-6400C4 (2x2GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK)
  • OcUK GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
  • Corsair HX Series 520W Modular PSU
  • Lian-Li ArmorSuit PC-P60 (Black)

1. Anything you would change?
2. Anything else I may need? (already have cpu cooler, hdd's, optical dd, etc from old system)
3. Any advice/links on how to overclock this? never done it before :)

Thanks

Thanks for your suggestions :)
I've read good things about the E8400 so would rather stick with it.
I will check how my Zalman cooler performs, and if necessary I will order a beefier one at a later time.

I was unable to order my parts last time so am doing it right now, but OcUK seem to have run out of the "G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-6400C4 (2x2GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK)" ;\

What would you recommend?

Obviously I'd like to get the best bang for my buck, and don't mind paying an extra tenner if it means noticable performance gains :)

Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 (800MHz), Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12, DHX

Sound good for just under £60? Better or worse than the G.Skill I originally selected?

Please reply someone, need to order in the next few minutes :$

I now have my system all up and running :) Took me 4 days to build (only a coupla hours in the evenings) it was my first time ;D

  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3ghz
  • Abit IP35 Pro XE (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2
  • Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 (800MHz), Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12, DHX
  • OcUK GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
  • Corsair HX Series 520W Modular PSU
  • Lian-Li ArmorSuit PC-P60 (Black)
  • Stock cooling
  • Vista Ultimate 64-bit

I've used the uGuru utility and overclocked to 3.5ghz.
Speedfan never shows a system temp higher than 32-35 degrees, and a cpu temp of no higher than 30 degrees :)

Super impressed with the performance in general use and games!! ;D

I can actually now play COD4 with all graphic settings on full, at 1920 x 1200 res on my 24" monitor with NO visible lag, and don't see why I wouldn't be able to play even more demanding games.

*will post pics soon*
