Just about to order myself a new toy but just want to make sure that everything is ok.

Opinions please:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Asus P5Q Intel P45 Motherboard
Corsair HX 520w PSU
Antec 300 Case
OCZ 2gb PC2-6400C4 Platinum Revision Ram
Arctic Cooler Freezer Pro 7
Samsung SH-S223F DVD Drive
Samsung Spinpoint F1 Hard Drive
Asus ATi Radeon HD 4850 Graphics Card

Many Thanks

Looks pretty good. I'd think about upgrading the RAM to 4GB - big difference for only £30 extra, especially if you're ever planning to use Vista. Also, the Freezer 7 will be fine if you're staying below 3Ghz, but if you start to raise the volts you might need something a bit beefier.

I wont be going beyond 3ghz just yet, not until the wife buys me something better at Christmas.

I already have 2gb of the same Ram lying around the house so will be at 4gb.

Cheers for the comments though.

Why are you going for and Asus ATi Radeon HD 4850 Graphics Card instead of an Nvidia 8800GT?

I'm not suggesting you get the 8800GT, just that I was speccing also at the moment and thought that was the card to get?

Also, perhaps the
Western Digital Caviar Blue 640GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD6400AAKS)
might be better?

I'm not sure... therefore expert thoughts welcome.

No the 4850 is the best card below a 4870/gtx260 it's good for about 10-20 fps more in a lot of things over the 8800gt and doesn't take much of a loss when using anti aliasing.

Why would he get an 8800GT? The 8800's are old now. The 4850 is much more powerful and the best bang for buck card out atm.

Thanks. I will also put the 4850 in my list.

However, is there an NVIDIA equivalent to this? just that Nvidia seem to support linux better.

If they are in the same range, then is the 4850 still "way" better than the 8800?

You should start your own thread and stop hijacking this one.
I would say the 9800GTX+ are the Nvidia Equivalent for the price.

4850 is way ahead of 8800GT. I have a WD6400AAKS - good drive, about 95 MB/s read, but the Samsung F1s are just as good.

4850 is quicker than the 8800GT and the 9800GTX+, especially with AA

Agreed the new Western Digital drives are very good.

On the graphics card what is the pin connector? Is it 4 or 6? Cannot remember and not been home yet to check since the parcel arrived.

Also, the Corsair PSU's come with loads of connectors in a bag if I recall correctly from a previous one. Is there a 4 pin one in that bundle? I know it has the PCI-E one but not sure if it has a 4 pin one which I believe is the connector on the above card.
