Hi All,

I recently received my new componants for my upgrade, but it has made my cousin jealous, and now he wants to follow in my path, he is going for a PC upgrade instead of xbox 360! could you spec me the best possible gaming system for £500 (poss £550). bare in mind this means a full system with monitor and stuff! i know this is very difficult and sounds stupid but he is next to me now telling me to do this!! (he has a gun..)

just found out he has recently bought a 26" flat screen tv, im thinking would it be possible to hook this up to a pc for games? then he can spend 500 on just the system.

Theres no way hes going to get a top end gaming system for £400 (whats left after a screen), so hes fooling himself if he thinks he can get a high end system for that. I'll see what I can put together that could be upgraded later though. And no, in general, TVs look absolutely AWFUL showing PC images, due to the resolutions involved.

DFI LanParty UT RDX200CF-DR Crossfire (Socket 939) Motherboard - £46.99
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego (Socket 939) - OEM - £64.61
Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) - £7.04
GeIL 512MB PC3200 Value CAS2.5 (GE5123200B) x2 £82.22 (1GB Dual Channel)
Leadtek GeForce 7300 GT Extreme 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail - £82.24
Hitachi Deskstar 7K160 NCQ 80GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (0A32727) - £31.71
Antec Sonata II Piano Black Quiet Case - 450W Smart Power PSU - £78.71
Sony DDU-1615 DVD-ROM (Black) - OEM - £12.34
OcUK Gamer Extreme 178GP 17" LCD Monitor - Black/Silver - £117.49

Total (inc VAT)
£523.35

Thats what I've come up with. There no copy of Windows, but there really wasnt room. A couple of bits can be bought cheaper by a tenner etc from other companies, but from personal experience, sometimes its much easier to pay a little and just get everything from the same place (no its thier fault, send it to them, no its thier fault etc etc)
He can upgrade the RAM and Gfx later, and the CPU at an even later date with a new mobo too, but what he does get for the price, isnt actually too bad. The screen is limited to 1280x1024 anyway, which is just as well, as the card wouldnt handle higher resses too well, but should be ok with medium details at 1280x1024.
