Ok so my internet is 3mbit intermittent, my parents is 152mbit, so I installed steam there and downloaded a few big games. I copied them to usb and took them home.
Unfortunately I didnt know about the steam backup option doobery whatsit! So I copied them over to the steamapps common folder and went to "download game". Steam discovers existing files, then queues up to download the whole lot again :/ I have tried downloading a little bit first them closing steam and copying the files over, and I've tried wiping all the downloaded stuff entirely and copying mine over. I've even tried moving the whole game to the downloading folder under the correct appid. But it always does the same thing, which is ignore those files and start downloading from scratch!
Can someone please explain how I get around this hehe, I'm sure it used to be easier!
*edit - I thought I had fixed it! On borderlands 2 I paused the download and did "verify game cache integrity" thing, and it worked, but on the others it hasnt, very odd!
