quick steam question

i already own tf2. if i buy a new pack which includes tf2 can i gift *just* the tf2 to someone? (i.e. just part of a package)

No, extra copies of TF2 cannot be gifted - you'll "lose" it. Link for more details:

It was my understanding that you will lose any extra copies of games (apart from the ones mentioned in the link above). For example, I have Trials 2 already but if I had purchased that "weekend deal" (which included Trials 2 along with some other games) I would not receive an additional copy to gift away. Lots of posts on the Steam forums about it. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

I was able to gift my extra copy of HL2 when I got the orange box, I don't see why it should be different..

this link: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?p_faqid=750 says it all i think (i.e. you can only gift with the 3 specific packages)

shame really. i wanted garys mod and was going to get it with tf2 to gift to someone.
