Hi people,

Just looking to get a second opinion on the below gaming spec.

Before we start - I don't wish to change the mobo. I've opted for the E2180 rather than a Q6600 to save a few quid... hopefully i'll get a decent clock out of it and will probably upgrade later in the year to one of the penryns.

I'm not entirely certain on my choice of RAM or HDD - 320GB is more than enough for me, though if you know of a better-performing similarly sized HDD (250-320ish) then let me know. I would also prefer to have 2x 2GB RAM to keep my options open in the future. I was also wondering if anyone has any experience with the HIS 3870 coolers?

This lot will all be housed in a Lian-Li PC-B25B along with a Corsair HX 620W (I purchased these along with a few other bits a couple weeks back).

Any advice/criticism/general abuse is welcome.

Many thanks :)

The Seagate 7200.10 250 GB disk is the quickest in that range. For not much more you can step up to an 8800 GTS. Perhaps you could save for it by going for a more sensible P35-based motherboard.

This G.skill will give you identical performance to what you have there and will cost a bunch less.

I think a decent P35 mobo + 2GB DDRII ram is a much better idea especially with the 2180 as it allows for a decent OC and then an upgrade some time next year. Also can I ask what the rationale is behind the 3870 instead of an 8800 series?

The spec is a fine list of components the x38 maximus is an excellent board as is the Abit IP Pro. Unless you are considering cross fire then it may be worth considering a NV 8 series GC

And i do agree with Billy regarding the 2x2 Gskill memory especially as your are going to run a 64x OS
