Quick turbo question.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is regarding the twin turbo BMW units around at the moment.

Sequential and Parallel turbos are different.

Parralel is two turbos of the same nature sharing the charging duties, one turbo for left bank and one for right bank.

Sequenstial is one small turbo then spining up a larger turbo, both 'in line' if you will.

I was under the impression that the new twin turbo engines in both petrol and diesel BMWs was sequential. It's not.

Only the diesels are sequential. The petrols are parallel.

I was reading the Z4 s35i brochure today and noted this in the blurb that the x35i engine is parallel turbos.

Was anyone else aware of this or have I just had my head buried in the sand? I thought they were both sequential.

[more pointless BMW engine trivia]Did you know the engine in the 3.0 Turbo BMW's is actually the previous M54 engine turbocharged and not the newer N52, because apparently the bore/stroke thingymabob is square and thus more suited to turbocharging[/more pointless BMW engine trivia]

I found it interesting if i'm totally honest. I can understand the sequential side to the diesels being suited over parallel but just assumed the petrols were sequential too.
