Quick tyre question

From what I have read on Cliosport.net the majority of people say those Toyo tyre's are great in the dry, but are rather poor in the wet.

These are the tyres I've seen a lot of people putting on 172/182's:

Hankook V12's - http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m62b0s344p15205

Uniroyal Rainsport 2 - http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m62b0s344p60641

And of course the Toyo's - http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m62b0s344p1679

I have Kumho KU31's on my 172, and being honest they are a fantastic tyre in the dry and in the wet, they are certainly as good as the Continentals that were on the car previously.

I think it is coincidental, from what I've read they are great in both conditions but as you say, most people seem to love the Hankook V12, either way you can't go wrong with either of them :)

Ace! Thread has served its purpose :) I'm now a lot more knowledgeable about tyres. Sorry if I irritated some people but we've all got to start somewhere. It's hard being motivated when you've been driving a 1.2 fiesta around for 4 years! :)

What I liked most about the Hankooks is that they provide a fantastic amount of grip whilst still maintaining a comfortable ride for every day use.

Ordered...

Item: Hankook Ventus V12 Evo 205/45 ZR16 87W XL Summer tyres
Amount: 4
Price: £ 74.30

Total VAT included: £ 297.20

Don't see the point in the Hankooks at that money, might as well have just got the PS3's for an extra 25 quid a corner. Stuff like Hankook are popular on Clio forums because they are cheap and most people hate spending money on tyres not because they are genuine rivals to the better tyres, which in this case and this application are the Pilot Sport 3, the best replacement for the original OEM Pilot Exaltos, which were the perfect tyre for the 182.

Lots and lots of poor reviews on the internet for those Hankooks in regards to wet grip. Enjoy the TC light flashing like a mofo.

Although: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...mparison_tests/hankook_ventus_v12_evo_page_10

That seems are more positive review apart from:

Hankooks felt “somewhat soft” and “imprecise,”

Which will probably spoil the 182's handling traits if true.

branded.. just watch out how you drive.. esp when stopping..

Without wishing to start ANOTHER tyre bum fight on the internet, I will just respond to that with 'lol'.

At the end of the day they might not be the best tyres in the world, but even they are going to seem like a revelation coming from a set of well worn boots.

Genuine question Fox, have you tried the Hankooks on a 182?

No, I drove a 182 when it was brand new so it was fitted with the specially developed Michelin Pilot Exaltos.

I tend to find a cars value and the frequency of recommendations for cheap tyres are proportional. Not neccesarily because the tyres are good, but because as the cars age and reduce in value the priorities of the ownership demographic changes.

You act as if this is some sort of surprise?

Cars get older, they fall out of the hands of 'caring' owners and corners get cut, it is the circle of life and I'd have thought you would have accepted this already? While it'd be nice is everyone went for the absolute best tyres available unfortunately it is just not going to happen, especially at this end of the market. You've got to remember the 'lesser evil' ladder: Hankooks are a lesser evil than Part worns, which are a lesser evil than illegal/defective tyres rather than moaning that he didn't spend the extra to get the 'best' tyres available to him.

No, it's no suprise at all  In what possible way was there even a hint of suprise in my post

I am just explaining why you get tyres like the Hankooks becoming super popular on owners forums whilst the original and best Pilot's fall out of favour. It isn't because of the ability of the tyre.

any one know anywhere you can get 4 used tyre of the same make and model.. rather than calling up all local shops.. ie internet.
