Sorry for another tyre thread, looking at 2 new front tyres for my 2.0T A3. Looking around I guess my top choices are:

Tyre size 225/45/R17

Falken FK-452 @ £186.52 fitted

Continental Sport Contact 3 @ £236.04 fitted

Those prices are from blackcircles.

Is reinforced the way to go? I understand it means stiffer sidewalls so sharper handling at the expense of harsher ride?

I spend most of my time plodding up and down the M1, so ideally want something that will wear well, are the CS3s worth the extra or is there anything else I should consider?

Thank you :)

i rated the FK452s on my ST, for a cheap tyre they are good, but compared to the SC3s they arnt as good, depends on your budget

Budget is flexible, I'll stretch to the CS3s if they don't wear any quicker than the FK452s, I do 20K+ a year and don't want to be changing every 6 months.

The FK452's wear very quickly and are noisy.

The CS3's are far superior in pretty much every way. They are grippy and give a great ride quality.

If your motoring plodding the CS3 will give a better ride, less road noise and excellent stopping distances. Can't comment on longevity though, better asking those with CS3's.

But in regards to longevity Michelin seems to always last very well, so maybe price up Michelin Pilot Sport 3 or if you want something more sporty look at Michelin Pilot Sport 2.

Just got a pair of 452s on my 9-3 Aero, £176 fitted.

Seem far better than the previous tyres, ( not saying much :o )

Good grip wet and dry, not that I have, or will push them to the limit.

I had a pair of PS3 (in that exact size but 91Y) fitted for 245 at an ATS local to my work just last week, just throwing that in as an option but I've not had that good a wear rate. Only got around 5k miles before they needed replacing.

Forget about the Falkens. I have a set on my car and this winter has produced a few brown trouser moments when braking hard.

Stick with the Continentals.

I just put a set of Falken ZIEX 912s on my Jag, I really can't give you a properly objective opinion on them yet as mostly I have just sat on the motorway with them, I did do 227 miles yesterday on them though, so broke them in. All I can really say so far is that they have less road noise than the worn Pirelli P6000s they replaced and the wet grip is noticeably better. Otherwise, I can't really say much yet.

They were good value and are often recommended on the Jaguar forums as good all-rounder with an emphasis on low road noise and comfort.

I thought about going for full premium tyres all round as I have always done in the past, but this time I thought I would see if the cheaper ones were any good and really were an acceptable compromise. I saved about 250 pounds over fitting a set of Eagle F1s or Conti Contact 3s.

I know they aren't the 452s you are talking about, the 912s aren't aimed at performance so much as being quiet and comfortable and I have heard from multiple sources that the 452s have rather a lot of road noise.

The 912s are noticeably better on our wet and currently very greasy roads right now than the Pirelli's ..but those P6000s were very worn on the back so isn't really a truly fair comparison.

However, thinking back to the set of P6000s I had on my other Jag, that weren't nearly so worn, the Falken's still have better wet weather grip imo ...the wet grip specifically always bothered me on the P6000s, new or old they were crap in the wet.

The P6000 tyres are meant to be crap aren't they? That's what I was told, unfortunately the wifes car has a pair of P6000 and P6 on, luckily she doesn't travel that fast :)

Yes, terrible. So terrible that any comparison with P6000's as some sort of benchmark is completely useless :p
