Hi,

Was just going through the motions of installing Ubuntu. I have two harddrives with two partitions each:

HHD1: Partition 1 = C Drive/Windows. Partition 2 = Empty partition (Linux to be installed here)

HDD2: Partition 5 = D Drive (all my media). Partition 6 = E Drive (my personal files).

I chose the 'guided auto choose largest free space' option and it seems as though it wants to format HHD2 because it says something along the lines of "the following partitions will be deleted, partition 5 & 6". I don't get why.

So I chose manual install and I choose the empty partition, but then I get an error saying I have to set the root.

I would prefer going through the manual route but what is this root thing?

Any help would be appreciated :)

manual is fine, you seem to have done everything except set the mount point for the main ext3 partition as "/" - meaning 'root', or the uppermost directory in the filesystem.

remember to make a small swap partition aswell if you want one.

cheers. Typing via my phone atm. Setting the '/' has helped :). I'll set a swap thing as it warned me about it. Thanks :)

woo hoo linux all done

edit: ah damnit.. i had the live cd from a few months ago - when 8.04 got released.

i did the usual updates as it asked.. and now my wireless net aint working

time to start searching for a solution :D

edit2: nvm, i restarted once again and now it works :)
