I've got nothing really to judge the result by but no tricks thats what I got "out the box" no tweaks.

The crysis folder is exactly the same one as my 8800GT scores on the forum here so config is running at high settings.

crap scrap that result :( just happened to check res while it was running (while overclocking) and for some reason it keeps defaulting to 1400x1050 while the benchmark is running even tho I have 1680x1050 selected.

I thought it was a bit abnormal compared to the 260GTX at over 700MHz.

EDIT: Gets 47fps at panel native (1920x1200) but even tho I can select 1680x1050 as a desktop res it won't run in crysis for some reason, whatever I do it sets 1400x1050 when it goes fullscreen.

Yep he could have done & it was all going well until he lashed out on his first reply.

Oh wait, you mean when I replied to this childish remark?
"Yeah, dodgy system with a 4870 in, never mind as long your happy now, going second best holds no shame."

And you are no better, why can't you leave it be, you still find fault in something I do, there was no guarantee a fix would work and I had already tried a hot fix, fresh install. Can't you see I had simply put the 260 in my system and it bloody worked first time!

All the games I played that were below the vsync now play a lot better, furthermore they play better than on the 4870 - end of.

Looking good. Shame you had a bad experience with a presumably dodgy 4870 (which is proven to be a faster card generally) but at least the 260 is working for you.

All that counts is that you're happy with your card, you don't have to justify your purchase with anyone. :)

*Vote for thread lock*

there still this ATI v NV war going on ? meh alls well as long as you can play games browse internet and watch movies (oh yea)

I gotta laugh at this - the mods closed the old thread as it was descending into a flame war, and so the OP just opened a new one and it's beginning to go exactly the same way. :D

Well you are at fault that is why.
You did not have to take the bait of that reply & then invite more problems upon your self.

It what quite a few posts down before i got involved as you claimed neutrality between NV & ATI that started to eroded with every post & with you posting a link to the AMD gaming forum really lost it as you have no reason other than to try to stir the pot seeing as you not using the 4870 any more.

There was clearly something wrong with the 4870 & your setup for what ever reason & its as simple as that very & likely a bios problem on the mobo or gfx card.

There are reviews all over the net that constantly put the 4870 as the better card overall, but you now come here & try to say otherwise with the one game that is known to favour NV cards & saying well that proves it all the 260 is faster as if the rest of us was born yesterday :).

This is faulty cards on both sides, what of the people who got faulty 260/280 this round, they could comment like you did & say i never had a problem with ATI cards, i can not take to risk again so im going to get a 4870/4870X2.

I have concluded that you prefer NV cards & there is nothing wrong with that & this round because the ATI cards are sweeping the boards & are getting such good reviews you thought that you would give it ago anyway & got unlucky with the your card.

And well i gave it ago but it did not work out & i will not loose that much performance getting a 260 & put allot of effort to convince your self a replacement ATI card would not be the best thing & then came back & tried to convince your self that the 260 is in fact faster then a 4870 overall by what you have posted here because it would make you feel better ignoring the fact that your 4870 was not performing as it should have in comparison to reviews & others here in this forum.

If a review site had a problem like you did & still published in full knowledge of what it should run like from other sources & concludes that the 260 card is faster overall when all other sources say otherwise, that review site would be laughed at & would take a huge credibility drop.

Me! i would have just posted
Received my pre OC MSI GTX 260

All the problems mentioned in my original thread have gone
& i would have been done.

Unless the 4870 is faulty most of the time issues are because the user lacks the technical skill to run a driver cleaner to remove the Nvidia drivers!! Going to a GTX260 is a crazy backward step.

People talk about Crysis on NV cards try running Assassins Creed (unpatched) on a 4850\4870 with AA on DX10.1 and let me know how sweet that 20-25% FPS increase is!! (So much apparently that Nvidia forced Ubisoft to patch it out as their cards cannot support it still).

You guys crack me up - for goodness sake the 260 and 4870 are on par, they beat each other, get that in your head. Backward step my a***, you seen the clock speed you can get out of these. Fair enough, apply crazy AA and the 4870 could well pull in front, providing the 260 takes me over 60FPS (which it does) I do not care....

Furthermore, I bought the 260 for £160 vat + delivery. OcUK sell the sapphire 4870 for £200 so who's getting better bang for buck? Now I wish I bought a couple of GTX 280s to shut you delusional fan boys up.

LoL, just lol. Go outside and wake up? I really am getting tierd of this, its a damn piece of hardware for playing games which is going to last me around 6 months; what's your problem? Its like I have just commited a crime or something? THEY ARE ONLY GAMES and quite frankly going out getting p*ssed with ppl from uni is a lot more fun; not good bang for buck mind, review sites everywhere say so...

It was you who were trying so hard to prove that the 260 was the faster card not me.

This is your thread you can stop any time.

And its not about the hardware as its more about how you handled things in this thread & your comments as i care nether for the 260 or the 4870 as they are both underpowered for my needs.

So what's with your aggression towards me and the 260? Can't you just say something like "well, shame it didn't work out, at least the 260 is performing well for you"

You fuel your own fire and I light it and honestly I don't care. 260 is doing what I need, some people understand that and there will always be poeple arguing at either side which one is better; end of the day theres no clear winner and I can admit that... For MY needs, the 260 is better, for poeple who play specific games that work better on 4870, then that is better for them. My argument was I wasn't bothered providing the gameplay stayed about 60FPS, so 4870's that pull ahead when AA applied don't bother me as the 260 can still hold it above what I need in same scenario.

A) Who the hell are you calling fanboys. People are stateing their opinions on the matter and experiences and you are the one shouting down at them. All i see is a angry and bitter NV fanboy.

B) If you read the forums rules is says to star out fully your swears like ive highlighted in red might wanna consider that.

C) Dont even dare calling me a ATI fanboi as i own 2 rigs one NV gpu and one ATI gpu. I'm happy with both all this NV IS BETTER NO ATI NO NV blah blah blah. is frankly pathetic. Go with results, atm your basing your whole card on one game.

D) You posted on a computer forum about a gpu and yet you try use the "going out with people from uni is more fun" card well then easy solution to that dont post on here if you dont care what other people think this is to discuss opinions not sit and listen to you rant on.

Personally i think this thread should just be closed its a pointless flame war atm
