Quick upgrade/reformatting question

Hi folks I have a Athlon 64 4000 single core processor. If I upgrade to a dual core athlon 64 (with same socket) is there anyway I can just do this without having to do a reinstall of windows? could I just "plug it in" and change any relevent bios settings or would I need to reinstall windows anyway?

I'm temped just to upgrade to dual core as they are so cheap but only if I can get away with no reformats/reinstalls of XP

I believe you may need to reregister windows. I've done a CPU upgrade on XP and not had any trouble before.

personaly i only have a single core, but going by others, it should just be plug and play. windows should notice the change + install new drivers.
