Hi guys,

Quick one, are all USB3 devices backwards compatible with USB2? i.e. If an external HDD says USB2/USB3 then has it got two lots of connections inbuilt or are they just using it for marketing so people with older machines don't get put off?

Cheers :)

Yeah should be backwards compatible in the same way you can use USB 1 devices on USB 2 computers.

No. Some USB 3 devices require the extra bandwith and power that USB 3 provides and will not work with USB 2 sockets.

However, all USB 2 devices will work in USB 3 ports.
