Quick usb mouse and keyboard question

iv just had a pc from my mate to fix (back up and reinstall) XP PRO sp2

there are no PS2 ports on the pc so im using usb mouse and keyboard

iv pluged it in and the mouse and keyboard will not work

razer diamondback mouse
saltek eclips 2 keyboard

lights go on but they wont work

i cant get passed the logon to check anything

keyboard will work in bios

must be a driver problem but i have no idea how to solve it

any ideas??

mouse and keyboard works on a linux live cd

try using another keyboard/mouse, install drivers and try again?

Try unplugging the keyboard and mouse and booting up and restarting, then plug back in may need to do it a few times. Try also booting up without them in and plugging them in when you get into windows, or try different usb ports if that doesnt work then your out of luck unless you have others to try

Sure the machine isn't crashing on the logon screen? I've been fooled by that before.

Also, try leaving it to sit at the login screen for five minutes or so, seen it take a while before myself.

Go into the BIOS and tell the Mobo to enable Keyboard and Mouse in both BIOS and Windows if there is such a option, there is on mine at least ...
