Quick vista question

Hi guys i have had vista on my laptop for a week or so now and all seems to be running good.

One thing i have noticed i only have a 40 bg hdd and with vista installed and about 5 gb of pics/music i only have 10gb left but the other thing is a few times when i turn my laptop on after it being off the hdd space is going down each time.
Is there something happening that needs turning off or is this the way it is??

If you have installed service packs there is a tool out there to 'clear' them. It gets you another GB or so back. Can't remember the name of the tool but a quick search on this forum should find it.
