Hiya, I have a 2004 1.9tdi 85ps (slowww) I have done some searching but I get conflicting results, basically I want to know if its cam belt or chain driven as its done 126k now and if its belt driven it needs doing!

Cheers

ROFL at that power, it's only 10ps more than my 106 :D

No can help with belt/chain though, but maybe my mocking will bump it towards someone who does know :p

If its the older non PD engine then its going to be the belt driven one, I might be wrong, but arent most VAG engines (1.9 non pd) the same block/head, just different injectors/turbo/fuel pump/ecu?

Yea its belt driven, at a 60k service interval, getting it booked in now, miniyazz it may only be 10 more bhp but its all about the torques!! (its still dog slow)

I just looked it up and the lightest VW Transporter I can find with your engine is 2600kg, pushing out 84bhp with 200Nm torque. My 106 weighs 889kg with 74bhp and 111Nm torque. I think I'm only just starting to comprehend how genuinely slow it is, I had no idea it weighed that much  Even with the torquez :p

2600kg is the weight it is with a full load lol. The van doesnt weigh 2.6TON empty haha

I had 15.3 seconds to 60 (yes I did g meter the van :P) so yes it is slow but there are unbelievably slower vans out there, ( I have the T30 version so its 3 tons fully laden, the T26 is the lowest weight capability you can get) anyway the van is 8.5k overdue a cam belt service  bit concerned its going to explode! booked in for next thursday for cam belt change

Still faster than a Pug 106 with the 1.0 Petrol or 1.4 diesel...

Can't see the 15.3s time being accurate tbh, had a slower time then that on the stopwatch in a 104bhp 2.5tdi T4 :)

I have a 'special edition' model and can't find the 0-60 speed anywhere.. but somewhere around the 10-12s rated, and just over 10s recorded with a passenger. It may just be psychological, but I reckon it's faster following a long (>100mi) motorway drive, though..

True, I suppose comparing bottom of the range models of both makes more sense.

Anyway, good luck with getting your cam belt sorted. I should probably check mine out actually, I have no service history though so don't know when it was done :(

Used a G meter run both ways (up and down the road) and first run came out at 15.3 the second slightly slower the quoted times abour 17.5 so its not that far off (normally quoted partially laden)

not my van its a works vehicle so if it does go pop before next thursday it doesnt really bother me 'too' much.
I doubt it will go I would supsect there is quite a large margain between the service interval and the belt actually getting to the point where it will snap
