quick windows 7 advice

hey guys. i am looking to install windows 7 on my dell m1530. which drivers do i use. do i stick with vista drivers?

If you can get Windows 7 drivers for the hardware that you have, then it will be best to download and install them. If not, then the Windows Vista drivers should be absolutely fine.

I've got several bits of kit using vista drivers under windows 7, and no problems here. Just remember if you use windows 7 64bit, you need vista 64bit drivers, or windows 7 32bit with vista 32bit drivers.

Would you guys just install Windows 7 then after, go to device manager and see what else is needed and get the necessary drivers?

I just recently upgraded to vista 64x ultimate, at first was very fast but seems to have got clunky and slow during start up even with 6Gb of ram. is windows 7 64x much faster and which windows 7 64x am i to go for , see there appears to be different versions?

I've got Windows 7 x64 on my XPS M1530 and it's fine. I just let Windows Update deal with the drivers.

Mate they're so similar that two people from a different planet that had never seen a PC before would not be able to tell the difference aside from the taskbar etc. Everyone seems to be saying omg 7 is so fast, but I can't tell the difference.

does 7 use much ram etc while running, vista 64x seems to be using about 1.34Gb of my ram at min with just standard applications running such as symantic, ati catalyst, messenger etc. scvhost seems to be the biggest sucker of memory at min, not sure how much but weill check pc later when home and there are a couple of these running all described as host processes for windows but one of them is just damn massive.

In short i guess would win 7 free up more resources?

it's supposed to use all your ram, even if you have 8gb

look up superfetch

also, ditch symantec.

read about superfetch, interesting and i guess it doesnt show that ram is maxed out when check task manager.

why not use symantec? wat else could i get, never reli liked avg
