quick x2 550 question

max id run with air is around 1.5v, with water you could squeeze it up to 1.55v. watch your temps :)
just try it at 2200mhz, if it is unstable just up the voltage by 0.05 or 0.1 on the NB.

something iv noticed, when i unlocked the 550 if the NB speed was left at default it ran like a bag of nails and lost around 40% of my fps, il keep looking into it i guess.

1.5 is the max I've done on my chip as well.

If you're having stability troubles I'd invest in a better cooler. These chips love to be cool :)

I have seen people use up to 1.6 vcore but that is with advanced cooling. I have taken it to 1.525 on my hyper tx3 but I would be uncomfortable using that as a permanent solution.

Most people seem to take 1.5 as the max safe voltage.

I think that you only need to increase the voltage on the NB if you experience stability problems - crash, BSOD, etc. The Auto setting is I think x10 on the multi so changing it to x11 should not be too much of a problem. I got it to x12 without changing the voltage.

I think the max temp is 62 C but the cooler you can keep it the better it will OC.

on full load at 3.7GHz temps are 32 degrees
that is just with the multi at 18.5 and the voltage at 1.425
its stable at 3.9 (200 x 19.5) at 1.525v but is slower peak temp of 37 degrees so i upped the nb to 2200mhz- unstable,
upped nb voltage by 0.01v or 0.1?- unstable
dropped cpu clock bk to 3.1GHz and tries again on the nb, no joy...

How high are you putting the nb voltage? You can safely have it up to 1.35 I think.

Maybe higher, but I am not sure...

Not sure I understand.

You can only increase the nb voltage by either 0.1 or 0.01 nothing in between or more?

just checked in the BIOS. 0.01v. when i upped the nb to 2200mhz and it crashed i upped the nb voltage to 1.120v. i wasnt sure if it was particularly wise to up the volatge and if so, by how much.

Ah I see. In this guide about unlocking phenom II x2 and x3. The guy suggests raising nb voltage to 1.35v if it does not unlock successfully.

I think the guy who wrote the guide is generally pretty conservative because he also says you should not put vcore above 1.4 (it is generally considered that 1.5 is fine). So I think 1.35 on nb should be equally conservative.

I am pretty sure that anything up to that level will be fine. I have had my one up that high with no problems. I am not an expert though.:p

Oh well. How about maybe the ram voltage? Slight increase on that??? Really outside my areas of knowledge now though. I am just thinking that I did have to increase mine to get it to work happily when I increased the nb frequency...

You mean unlocked from 2 to 3? I never really used it with 2, just unlocked as soon as I got the chip. But I think having extra cores makes much more of a difference to performance than even quite a big increase in speed of the cores you have. Especially if you are doing several things at once. Or using multi threaded programs (games, encoding software etc).

Have you tried unlocking?

ye ive done the auto thing and hybrid on the ec firmware etc and bumped up the nb voltage and v core as mentioned in that link and still no joy. i need to master how to manually select which core to unlock as i may have 1 stable...

Im not familiar with the bios in your mobo but there should be an option to allow you to select the settings per core and then select which combination of cores will be attempted to unlock.

This is the thread where lots of people helped me to try to unlock. You might find something useful in there.
