hi

i have read a lot of threads about ocing 3800 x2s to high clocks and was wondering if the higher x2s will go better?

ie if a 3800 can get to 3ghz can a 4200 get to 3.2ghz etc

or is the 3800 jus and awsome clocker?

thx joker

The opty 165 and 170's clock better than the x2's on average.
And I have not seen many x2 3800 at 3ghz TBH.

The higher clocked x2's dont give better clocks. It doesn't work that way.
\they are just the same cpu with a different multi.Unlike the 4400 and 4800 with the added cache.

The Manchester core is a good clocker, but they all top out at around the same, though the 4200+ has a higher multiplier so it makes things a bit easier. You'd be hard pressed to get either to 3ghz though, most seem to get to 2.8ish on water, anything more would take phase I'd have thought.

Opty's are generally accepted as better, stabler overclockers though ;)

i was just using 3ghz as an example

see i have a 3800 x2 and my friend has a 4200 x2 he says his will clock higher than mine,

i was jus wondering if it true or we jus get around same

They should top out at around the same point as they have the same core. The 4200+ might get a bit higher as it's increased multiplier means it can be clocked more without pushing other components as far, but it's no guarantee.

TBH its luck of the draw depending on stepping etc.. how thing clock. You could clock your x 2 3800 higher than his its luck of the draw.

My old x2 3800 needed 1.575 v to do 2.6ghz.

My opty 170 needs 1.36v for 2.8ghz both are toledo cores.
