quick xbox 360 marketplace question

i have a xbox live account on a loaned console but plan to buy a xbox 360 after xmas if i buy any arcade games can i redownload the games on my new xbox 360? or do i have to transfer the games?

You can re download them but you won't be able to play them offline till you transfer the license over to your new console via xbox.com

Be warned though, you can only use the transfer tool on the website once every 12 months.

I've a feeling you need to have downloaded at least one item on the new console for it to appear. You could get a free theme or something though.

Basically once you're on the new console you'll first need to either copy your gamertag via a memory unit from one console to the other or recover it via Xbox live. There is no problem with recovering (you don't lose anything) but last Christmas people found recovering gamertags difficult as the service was overloaded.

Next you can go into the download history of your account and redownload everything that you downloaded. The others are right in that when you buy something the content is also linked to the console you bought it on. Therefore if you want to play it on your new console you either have to be signed in to the gamertag or use the license transfer tool to transfer the licenses.
