Hey guys,

Is there a way of backing up Quickbooks' data without using the application?

Cheers!

I think it depends on the version (I'm assuming you're not using it over a network and it's just a local install?).

If it's an old version, it's most likely going to be in the installation directory, failing that, you can get the data paths from within the application, assuming you can load the app? I don't remember the exact way, but it's going to be something like: tools > options :P

Yep - just a local install. I ended up going on the Quickbooks support site and I was advised to copy the '.qbw' file/s. The QB app itself won't load atm; it's installed on a failing raid :(

Is it just a case of importing the .qbw files back into the program when I have everything back up and running again do you know?

Cheers.

Hmm well i'd try to copy the entire directory to another drive, then do a fresh install on the new drive, THEN copy over the new install directory with the one you copied from the knackered drive.

If that works, happy days, if not, then i'd do another fresh install and just copy across the QDB files (but i'm assuming you'll just need to 're-attach' them to the app and tell it where they are).

Been ages since I used Quickbooks, so apologies for the vagueness :P
