quickest cpu for old mobo

its socket 7 so no chance of getting anything quicker than what you have really. i believe amd made a k6-2 550mhz but its fpu is crap so games run slow on it.

if you were after a replacement you can build a real cheapo machine by getting parts from ocuk. can get mobo, cpu and ram and build cheapo s939 setup or AM2 for around 100 quid.

I think i'll scrap the mobo then and like you say have a mooch in the for sale section. Cheers

no need to scrap it. if it still works you can sell it on or donate it to charity. i have a information center near my house that accepts donations of old pc's and parts. also schools will accept the parts too.

hmm, don;t really have contact details, i normally just wlak in and dump the stuff there. but there must be someone around near you that will take in old pc parts. schools will deffo accept them so electronics students can practise soldering etc on it.

If it supports K6-3+ cpus and some overclocking you can usually get a 450 K6+ to 600+ MHz and with the 256k L2 cache, big improvement over a 500 K6-2 but nothing compared to anything in the K7/ later PIII era.
