Quickest way to humanely kill a small fish ?

About half an hour ago one of my fish played dead AGAIN! They do this some times to escape the tank and get out to the big wide sea! Clever little things and i allways go along with it, but i do miss them when they are gone.

Hope he doesnt get eaten by a shark.

This thread officially delivers.

easiest pain free way to put a fish down and this is up for debate on some fish forums.

would be to take the fish out tank and place it in a little container with water then put it in the freezer.

apparently it wont feel any thing and its respitory system will slow down and the fish will go to sleep.

never to awaken again.

Let me get this right. You've been watching it in agony for a week and now you want it to die instantly. Where's you're compassion man?!

Eat it.

I think you're taking this a little too seriously lol.

as opposed to flushing the little fishey down a toilet where it can encounter massive amounts of ammonia and burn to death?

yes i know about fish keeping and know that they can be valuable pets yet most guys are mocking the guy for trying to save his pet or humaneley put it down.

I totally agree. That's why he should eat it. The pH in the stomach would fry it instantly.

laugh a minute with you guys eh....

The replies just reflect the daft question by the OP. It's hardly rocket science how to kill a tetra within a couple of seconds. As for putting it in the freezer, if the fish is in agony why are you suggesting prolonging it??

if a fish gets put in a container with a little water and in a freezer it will go to sleep peacefully apparently never to wake up again.

there was a massive debate on a fish site and that method was the most humane.

Tetras are tiny little ****s. If the damn thing is in agony already then surely the swiftest of ends is more preferable than netting it, picking it up, placing it in a small container in which it will get more stressed, then letting it, still in agony, die slowly in a freezer. I would net it then clap it between my hands; instant relief from it's agony.

i know how tiny tetras can be :p

have you tried a healthy dose of aquarium salt in the quarantine tank? and what are the tank parameters? ammonia, nitrite and nitrates as well as ph?

if theres any cat fish in quarantine tank do half salt dosage at most.

You might as well be flushing them down the toilet because that method is just as bad.
