Is there much success installing winamp and vlc media player in linux installations. It's just that they're the two programs that I will deffo be looking to bring across should i change OS. ;)
 
Winamp is a closed source windows only App, so no ports there. There is XMMS which functionally is a version of Winamp 2, it even supports the same skins, but it's a fairly old app.

VLC is open source and available for most platforms.
 
I don't think your sexually suggestive title is helpful to anybody ;) :D

nevermind, as for playing music in linux, I've tried songbird which isn't bad
 
Always used RhythmBox in Linux, even if I have to suffer the iTunes-type forced interface. Built in toasts and scrobbling though, it's all good :)

And VLC for videos, mplayer if that don't work. So as above for them :p
