Seems daft for me to be starting a thread on Quicksilver, but i've only recently downloaded it and think it's definately gonna grow on me. After messing around with a few plugins and triggers, it got me wondering what sort of actions/triggers the rest of you have, or what sort of things you use it for.

So far i'm mainly using it for iTunes actions, (Play/pause, Rate Current song 4/5*). Not really experimented with it mucht though or any other plugins.

Quicksilver for those who haven't heard of it.

I use it for itunes action but with the remote next to me... i use that more.

But yea, Quicktime (edit: I mean quicksilver :P) is definitely a must have on the system, especially as it remembers what 3 letter combination I use to open applications. great for opening applications with a few quick press of the keyboard :)

Mainly used as an application launcher here but there is a ton of stuff it can be used for.

One cool feature that I don't have a practical use for is 'Large type' text - start QS and press the full stop key, enter some text and then select the action 'Large type'.

I use the large text function to set up timers, like reminding me to check the oven in 30mins. Then OVEN can appear in big letters.

A how-to is here http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060826104706258

Also I htink you need to enable advanced functions in one of the menus somewhere before you can use proxy objects.

One disadvantage of this - I havent figured out how to cancel the timers, so if someone decides to prank me and set it up to say I AM A LOSER! in large text to show in x number of hours when Im doing a presentation to some clients, im a bit screwed really :P

Quicksilver is still awesome tho, so many possibilities. (as opposed to Quicktime - im looking at you Dr Jones...)

I can never really get on with Quicksilver, it is one of those apps that I keep going back to. I will install and use it for about a week and then it will just start annoying the hell out of me by not doing what I want it to. It is still awesome though.

I just use Spotlight for app launching, envoke Spotlight, type in the first couple or three letters and hit Command and return, not really much different from QS really. In the past I have found Launchbar to be more useful for actually doing things than QS, it is faster and certainly much more accurate. Take launching a song in iTunes, in launchbar you just type the name of the song and it magically appears, I could never get QS to do that.

A new Launchbar version is due out any day now and is expected to give Quicksilver something to think about, it's all good in Macland. :)

I remember your 'Quicksilver-only" stint..

I felt the same way about Quicksilver.. I only installed it once, played around with extra triggers and watched those MacBreak videos but I got bored with it and never saw the point in reinstalling it

Yeah, my QUicksilver only stint didn't last very long. LOL. :D

It seems Apple have actually already put a lot of work into making OS X very good at multi-tasking and productive. I think Quicksilver is just a geek tool for the sake of it really, I never really found it speeding up my workflow or increasing my productivity at all, quite the opposite in fact.

I have just gone back to using vanilla OS X and all is good. :)
